Important Changes to NECO Alumni Google Accounts

As part of NECO’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity protections and better safeguard user accounts, our IT department will be making several changes to all alumni Google accounts in the coming months. Here’s an overview of what is changing and what steps you may need to take.

June 1, 2026 – Added Account Security

All alumni NECO Google accounts will require “two-factor authentication” (sometimes called 2FA), beginning June 1, 2026. This adds an extra layer of security that helps protect your account from unauthorized access. In addition to your password, you may be asked to confirm your identity using a code sent to your phone or another trusted device.

If you already use this feature with your NECO account, no action may be needed. Alumni who graduated within the last several years likely have this enabled.

If you do not set up two-factor authentication on your alumni NECO Google account by June 1, 2026, you may temporarily lose access to your account. If this happens and you want to regain entry to your account, please reach out to NECO’s IT department: helpdesk@neco.edu

August 1, 2026 – Changes to Google Drive and Other Services

On August 1, 2026, all alumni accounts will transition to “Gmail-only” access.

NECO is no longer able to support alumni accounts on its Google Drive and Google Services platform in order to prioritize access for students, faculty, and staff. We are able to offer continued access to your NECO alumni Gmail account, but you will no longer have access to other Google services associated with your NECO alumni account, including:

  • Google Drive

  • Google Calendar

  • Google Keep

  • Other Google storage/services connected to your NECO account

If you have been using these services through your NECO alumni account and have files, calendars, notes, or other materials you would like to keep from these services, please download or Ki transfer them to another account before August 1, 2026.

For those with a large amount of content, Google provides a tool called Google Takeout that allows you to download your information in bulk.  If you need assistance, NECO IT is here to help: helpdesk@neco.edu.

Residents: Please note that if you are beginning or currently participating in a residency program at NECO, these changes will not apply to your account until after your residency concludes.

We appreciate your understanding as we continue to improve account security and responsibly manage technology resources across the college. We will send another reminder as each of these dates approach.
